Paula Cunningham
Pre-Kindergarten Teacher
South
My name is Paula Cunningham and I have been working in the field of Christian Education since 1998. Serving for the first four years as a kindergarten aide, I was mentored by a veteran teacher of more than 25 years. For the next six years, I was the lead teacher in the early childhood department and taught Pre-K. I began working at CHCS in 2009 and started teaching Pre-K in 2010. In 2011, I graduated from Kaplan University with an Associates Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis on Early Childhood Development. I am very excited to be teaching Pre-K and working with a team dedicated to Christian education. Raised as the daughter of a local minister, it was my privilege to grow up working with my parents in our church. As a teenager, I taught Sunday school, VBS, and mentored younger children. I was also instrumental in developing a Junior Church program where children not only learned the stories from the Bible, but how to apply them to their daily lives. Throughout this time my love for children turned into a passion for teaching them about the unconditional love of Jesus Christ. In 1990, I married the love of my life, John. We live in Uniontown and have two sons, Zachary and Aaron. We love spending time together as a family, playing games, boating, and swimming. We also enjoy worshipping together at Grace Baptist Church where John and I serve as ABF leaders, GriefShare leaders, and greeters at the Welcome Center. We also serve through outreach local and foreign outreach projects. Many years of teaching experience and being a mother have given me insight into the unique needs of children. My goal is to promote spiritual, physical, cognitive, social, and emotional growth in an interactive, hands-on learning environment. Children will enjoy learning math and science concepts, language arts, and heritage studies, and be introduced to Spanish and sign language. Theme based learning with Biblical integration will provide added enrichment. I am honored to be part of the CHCS family. I look forward to partnering with you to provide a Christian education and instill a love for learning in the heart of your child. My fervent prayer is that others will see the light of Jesus through me.
What's Special About This Grade?
Pre-K students arrive with a vital and open creativity and imagination. With this in mind, pre-k students, due to trust in their instructor, are remarkably available to learning, and thus, make great strides in their knowledge base which makes them a joy to teach. It is simply astonishing to be present as these children engage their initial experiences with independence and confidence building.
