Hello, my name is Melissa Reeves. I graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2010 with degrees in both Elementary and Exceptional Needs Education. I have desired to be a teacher for as long as I can remember – I still recall teaching Sunday School lessons to my stuffed animals as a child!
For the first two years after I graduated college, I worked in Coventry schools as a Title I Tutor for Kindergarten and First Grade. Last year I began teaching Kindergarten here at the CHCS South campus, and I am so excited continue to work with Kindergarten students! I attended CHCS as a student myself, and I’m thrilled to invest in the lives of my students in the same way my elementary teachers invested in my life. It is so wonderful to have the privilege of sharing my love for Christ with my students, and to be able to plant the seeds of faith in this crucial phase of their lives.
I am very passionate about teaching Kindergarten – it is my favorite grade to teach for so many reasons! Kindergarten students are so eager to learn – and there is so much they are able to discover throughout the year! I also feel that Kindergarten is the foundation of their education, and if they are excited about learning by the end of Kindergarten, that is often a precedent set for their remaining educational years. I love the ways they enjoy learning through discovery and experiences, as well as modeling and play. It is also very rewarding to see the vast ways they grow throughout the year both socially and academically.
I hope you will see my love for your child, and my desire to help him or her grow this year spiritually, academically, and socially. It will be such a blessing to see where the Lord will take our class this year!
What’s Special About Kindergarten?
Students arrive with a vital and open creativity and imagination. With this in mind, students, due to trust in their instructor, are remarkably available to learning, and thus, make great strides in their knowledge base which makes them a joy to teach. It is simply astonishing to be present as these children engage their initial experiences with independence and confidence building.
