Mrs. MaryElizabeth Norman
Subject: Art
My name is MaryElizabeth Norman, and I am a lifelong artist. I have been creating things since I was small. Upon graduating from Kent State University with a Bachelors in Fashion Merchandising, I began my 22-year tour of our country. My photographer husband, Miles, and I have worked and lived in California, Michigan, and most recently New York, before returning home to Ohio. While in NY, I received my MSEd in Elementary Education, with a concentration in Visual Arts.
I have always loved young people, and the exuberance and passion they bring to everything they do. My two boys, Jeremiah and Isaiah have taught me perhaps more than I have taught them. They have been my cheerleaders, my accomplices, and my learning lab. My family has been my greatest blessing and my inspiration to teach. I have been in the classroom in some capacity since 2001, and every day has been a blessing. My greatest joy is to help our young people discover and develop the gifts and talents that they have been given, and use them for the glory of our Creator. My passion is to help our children fall in love with the Lord through His creation. It is my prayer that each student at Chapel Hill Christian School will gain a firm foundation in the arts and the confidence to be able to use his or her gifts to share the love of Christ and celebrate the beauty of His creation. I look forward to working together with our students as we utilize our gifts to bless our school and local communities, knowing that "we are loved with an everlasting love and drawn with loving kindness" (Jeremiah 31:3). |
What's Special About Teaching Art?
First of all how many occupations include finger-painting?
We get to experiment with all kinds of art media! We look at famous paintings and try our hand at some of the techniques of the masters. I have fun helping my students recognize that art is all around us not just in museums. There is art in our homes, architecture, clothing and in nature. We exalt the greatest Creator of all! The theme verse for artists: Ephesians 2:10 "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Highlights In The Art Room
