“If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Makayla, one of our awesome 4th graders, sees Biblical Truth everywhere! She literally has given me more ideas for my blog than I can keep up with.

The most recent one involves sugar and red sprinkles… two things every elementary school student loves. When Makayla saw red sprinkles it reminded her that Jesus had shed His own blood at the cross for the forgiveness of sin for everyone. We are always reminded of this truth when in our local churches, we receive communion and are reminded of those great words of Jesus “This is my body given for you” and “This cup is the new covenant in my blood which is poured out for you (Luke 22:19&20)”. I am reminded just now of our kids singing, “There is power in the blood”.

So what’s sugar got to do with these thoughts? Makayla reminded me that we often try to “sugar-coat” or “water-down” the power of God’s truth. She poured the sugar into those bright red sprinkles and mixed them together, the result? A kind of weak pink powder.

My mind goes right away to the great words of Jesus taken from John chapter 8 and written for us above. Real disciples are those who hold on to the teachings of Jesus with both hands. Jesus said that they know the truth, and as a result they are free!

Back to the words of “power in the blood”: “Would you be free from the burden of sin…would you or evil of victory win…there is power in the blood”! Isn’t the truth of what God has done for us both gracious and marvelous! Makayla has reminded this pastor to hold to the words from this year’s theme verses “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that we might be fully equipped for every good work.”

I mustn’t sugar-coat the truth but rather teach it as Paul taught Timothy, “In season and out of season; …with great patience and careful instruction.”

Let’s pray over it: Father, thank you for the purity that the shed blood of Christ brings to every life who believes. Empower us in the days ahead to teach Your truth with clarity and perseverance, in the powerful name of Jesus, Amen.

Proud uv ya,

Pastor Wilson
