Mrs. Betty Baker
Grade: 1st Grade
My name is Betty Baker and I began teaching at Chapel Hill Christian School in 1978. I was raised on a diary farm outside of Alliance, Ohio. I decided early to be a teacher because of the profound impact my teachers had on my life. I received my undergraduate degree from Malone College in elementary education. My husband, Lynn, and I taught in Hartville after college. I served as a missionary in Taiwan for four years before beginning my teaching career with Chapel Hill Christian School. I received training from the National Institute of Learning Disabilities, and I was involved in the development of that program here on our Green Campus.
I consider it a privilege to teach your child in first grade. I find it very exciting to provide a safe and nurturing environment for your child to grow spiritually, emotionally, socially and academically, too. My goal is to fully prepare him or her for second grade. I am a proud parent of two children who graduated from CHCS. I am committed to praying for you and your child regularly. My greatest joy is to model and guide your child into a vital relationship with God and help form his or her worldview from a Christian perspective. I look forward to developing a parent-teacher partnership that is open, caring and honest. I treasure your assistance in making our year a memorable one. Please feel free to contact me and stop by to see the work your child is doing. |

What's Special About This Grade?
The students improve in responsibility, organization (they have their own desk for the first time), social interactions, and emerge as proficient readers. Many first grade students enjoy reading because it is not as hard any longer! Six and seven year olds also understand salvation more and how to have a personal relationship with Jesus.
