Mrs. Beth Sery
Grade: 1st Grade Hello, my name is Beth Sery. I am so excited and blessed to be teaching first grade at Chapel Hill Christian School. My prayer is that my students and their families will see the love of Christ through me. I was born in upstate New York and am one of four children. I accepted Christ at a young age at Vacation Bible School. I have felt called to teach since childhood and can't imagine doing anything else. My siblings and I would play school for hours. I currently hold a Bachelors Degree from Ottawa University, and am taking Masters Education Classes at Cleveland State University. I praise God every time I realize that He helped make my heart?s desire become a reality. I am certified to teach Pre-K -4th grade in the State of Ohio. I have taught Kindergarten, First, Second, and Third grades. Every year I teach is a new adventure with a new group of learners. Each student is unique and a gift from God. I met my husband while I was working at an urban summer camp in Buffalo. He was born in the Ivory Coast, a small country in western Africa. We love to travel and visit extended family around the globe. We have two daughters. Chelsea attends college and Adeline will be attending Chapel Hill Christian School. We are also active in our church. I love to help with Vacation Bible School in the summer. I have a heart for teaching and I love children. I enjoy finding fun and creative ways to teach. As I have matured in my teaching I have discovered how to challenge, motivate, and prayerfully develop a love of learning in my classroom. Christian teaching is the most rewarding of all because we are able to give our children a Biblical worldview and train them up in the ways of the Lord.

Students may choose any book that has an AR test made for it. To find out whether your book has an AR test, consult www.arbookfind.com. Please don't allow your student to read a book and plan on taking a test without checking this list. There is nothing we can do if a book is read without there being a test and they will not get credit for reading it. Students make their own choice with parents overseeing.

What's Special About This Grade?
The students improve in responsibility, organization (they have their own desk for the first time), social interactions, and emerge as proficient readers. Many first grade students enjoy reading because it is not as hard any longer! Six and seven year olds also understand salvation more and how to have a personal relationship with Jesus.
